Living in London can be an expensive experience
so it is important to budget carefully for the costs associated
with studying in England's capital city.
The biggest single cost will be for accommodation.
Generally, the closer you wish to live to the College the
more expensive the rent will be. The cheapest way of living
fairly centrally is to stay in a hostel. From around £75
per week you can stay in dormitory accommodation with meals
provided.
As a guide, we usually suggest that you budget
for roughly £90 per week for a twin room (giving greater
privacy) and meals. However, once you have settled in to living
in London you will be able to look around for cheaper accommodation.
Another major cost is that associated with using
public transport in London. Unfortunately, the famous London
Underground, or 'tube', is one of the world's most expensive
transport systems. However, the instantly recognisable red
London buses are a cheap and efficient way of getting around
the city. We usually suggest that you allow for £50
per month for a student travel pass.
Of course, you will also want to make the most
out of living in one of the world's most exciting cities and
so you will need to have some money to spend on entertainment.
£150 each month should be enough to enjoy some of the
restaurants, theatres and cinema. Also bear in mind that you
will be given membership of International Students House where
most activities are free.
*All Students are expected to pay their Exam fees on registration
day.
